Reporting LGBT hate crime

 

 

You can report homophobic or transphobic incidents to the police on the new national non-emergency number: 101. Don't forget to tell the officers when they answer that it's a hate crime.

GALOP (www.galop.org.uk) is an independent non-police agency for reporting hate crime against lgbt people. It can be useful if you have difficulty reporting incidents to the Police. GALOP will take details of your report, and if you wish report it to the police on your behalf. Any information you give to GALOP is confidential and they will only pass on the information you want to the police. Shoutline: 020 7704 2040

There are special services for violence in gay partnerships.

True Vision (www.report-it.org.uk/) is a national scheme being used by a number of police forces across the UK, but currently NOT by the Metropolitan Police. Note that there is a spoof website at  "www.true-vision.org.uk" which pretends to be the True Vision site, but is actually run by "Christian Voice".

You can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers are a charity, but your call will be answered by trained police officers who will take any report or information you have. You do not have to give your name and you could receive a reward for any information you give.
